Mears is the star for Crewe Flyers

DANIEL Mears was the star of the show for Crewe Flyers at the Percy Mason Memorial Gala at Orford Jubilee Park, Warrington.

The young swimmer led the nine-strong team with a haul of three medals, two gold and one silver, as the Flyers enjoyed a successful evening of competition, returning home to Crewe with 13 medals.

Mears also claimed a speeding ticket for beating a set qualifying time, one of eight to be won by Flyers swimmers on the night.

But Mears was not the only one among the medals, as Georgia Prestwich earned her first competitive medals with three third-place finishes and Catriona Cody returned home with one gold and two bronze.

There were improved performances from Rebecca Stacchini, competing in her first 100m breaststroke race, and Rachel Bradshaw, who finished eighth in her 50m fly event and cut an impressive 15 seconds off her 100m backstroke personal best, one of 20 new personal best times on the night for Flyers members. Joe Stather won two top six medals.
