Flying Lady defeat allows Pole to extend advantage
7:00am Sunday 10th February 2013 in Sport
DESPITE being held to a draw by West End LMR B, Crewe Open League’s Premier Division Dominoes leaders Hop Pole extended their lead at the top.
That was because main challengers Flying Lady A lost 5-3 to Cosey Club and third-placed Pioneers Club A were walloped 6-2 at Vine A.
Division One’s top five teams met the bottom five, with top two Imperial and Express remaining on station after 5-3 wins over Horse Shoe and Cheshire Cheese respectively.
But the pair now face a strong challenge from Nantwich Road A, who hit bottom team Woodside for seven to rejoin the title hunt.
Division Two toppers Bridge A beat third-placed Foresters A 5-3 to move nine points clear of White Lion A, who let slip a 4-1 lead in their draw at fourth-placed Amalgamated B.
It is all change in Division Three, with leaders Liberal Club’s 6-2 win at Pioneers Club B taking them two points clear of revitalised Flying Lady B, who did the double over Rising Sun by beating them 6-2.
One point back are Vine C, 6-2 winners at Prince of Wales E and they host the leaders in the next match.
Rising Sun and Pioneers B make up the top five, covered by just five points.
Division Four pacemakers White Lion won 5-3 at third-placed Prince of Wales D, who may have one more chance of getting closer to the top two as they host second-placed Waldron B, who were held to a draw by Flying Lady C, next match.
Division Five leaders Swan and Chequers were beaten 5-3 by Rileys Club B and meet main challengers Brunel Arms C next week.
Nags Head were beaten 6-2 by Brunel Arms C, who take over second spot from them on matches won.
Oddfellows Club won 5-3 at Brunel Arms A and visit the Nag next week.
It is doubtful whether the Swan or Nag will finish in the top two when they complete their matches next week, as Brunel 'C', 'A' and the Oddies all have two matches in hand.
Division Six leaders Nantwich Road B completed a 5-3 double at Brunel Arms B to lead by 13 points, but both main challengers Hop Pole B and Brunel B have a match in hand.
The final week's matches have Brunel B and Nantwich Road B hosting Hop Pole B and Foresters B.
