Ten-man Crewe FC struggle at Knutsford
10:56am Monday 18th February 2013 in Sport
Knutsford 5 Crewe FC 1
CREWE slipped to seventh in the Cheshire Football Division One after suffering at the hands of runaway league leaders Knutsford.
Despite travelling to last year's champions with the best defensive record in the league, Crewe were soon taken apart by two well-worked goals that meant they were always playing catch-up.
The visitors did not give up though, with player/manager Carl Everall sending Ruane through on goal late in the first half to give his side hope of an unlikely revival after the break.
But despite reducing the deficit and starting the second half on the front foot, Crewe were left with an almost unsurmountable task when Ruane's dissent resulted in a red card and a devastating recovery from the home side.
Try as they might Crewe's hard work was in vain and Knutsford had soon put the game to bed with three goals that cemented their place eight-points clear of the chasing pack in the league.
