CREWE FC manager Carl Everall highlighted his side’s defensive naivety following their heavy loss to runaway Cheshire Football League leaders Knutsford.
Crewe slipped to seventh but Everall believes it is not just his back four that need to take the blame for the heavy nature of the defeat.
“It is disappointing that we lost in this fashion, players need to be stronger mentally and gain that maturity in order to maintain a closer scoreline,” he said.
“Conceding goals does not necessarily always mean the defence. “We’ve been undone due to overloading from Knutsford, as our offensive players haven’t understood their roles to track men.”
Nathan Southern’s fine performance against the title holders did not go unnoticed, however.
Crewe host Gamesley on Saturday, kick off 2pm.

CREWE were always playing catch-up against Knutsford, who have lost only two of the 18 games they have played this season.
The visitors were taken apart by two early goals and though Everall sent Ruane through late in the first half for hope of an unlikely revival, that recovery never came.
Losing Ruane to a red card for dissent in the second half did not help matters, and Knutsford turned on the style after the break to ensure Crewe would return home empty handed.
