Davis: Defeats have hurt us as much as the fans
7:00am Friday 8th March 2013 in Sport By Toby Robinson
STEVE Davis is adamant that Crewe Alexandra's season won’t peter out after successive defeats against strugglers Hartlepool and Portsmouth.
Crewe travel to lowly Colchester on Saturday before a tough Tuesday night home clash with promotion-chasing Sheffield United.
“I think the players were stunned by the last two games and we were all disappointed,” said Davis.
“It hurts us just as much as it hurts the fans and we feel a need to put it right.
“For us to lose two games on the run - suddenly there is doubt around and that’s a great reaction from the supporters because it proves we’ve come a long way.
“We take it on the chin.
“I have pushed them harder this season than I ever did last year but the quality of this division means it’s harder to get on those successful runs.
“The priority is to get enough points to be safe and then finish as high as we can.
“You can’t totally forget about Wembley (JPT final) but staying in this division is more important.”
