Haslington edge closer to title after latest win
12:38pm Thursday 22nd August 2013 in Sport
LEADERS Haslington moved a step closer to the Cheshire Cricket Alliance Division One title after a victory over Saughall as rain tampered with Saturday’s schedule.
Three of six scheduled top tier fixtures were abandoned, while only Wilmslow of the Crewe outfit’s rivals for first place managed to record a win.
At the weekend, the visitors were called in to bat first at Jubilee Park and posted 193 for 6 before declaring after 42 overs.
Openers Tommy Taker, 55, and Jack Moran, 23, built a partnership of 64 before the latter was dismissed but Haslington’s consistent middle order followed up with Tom Gledhill, 26, Jonathan Phipps, 26, and Alex Moore, 28, making a contribution.
Charlie Whitworth took 3 for 34 for the hosts.
The visitors’ total was by no means unobtainable but Saughall, languishing at the lower end of the table, were skittled for 69.
Gledhill once again led the bombardment with seven for 21, in doing so reaching the 100-wicket mark this season for the first time in his career.
Haslington host Glazebury this Saturday, from 1.30pm.
Wistaston Village managed to put 145 runs on the board before their game at Rylands in Warrington was washed out, meaning they slip to fourth in the standings. However, their promotion hopes remain intact.
Stalybridge St Paul’s are their guests this weekend.
