Haslington place one hand on Division One title
12:00pm Friday 30th August 2013 in Sport
HIGH-FLYING Haslington edged inches closer to the Cheshire Cricket Alliance Division One title with a resounding eight-wicket win when they hosted Glazebury on Saturday.
The league-leaders put their visitors in to bat and the relentless bowling of the division’s top wicket-taker Tom Gledhill made short work of the Glazebury order.
Gledhill, 7 for 25, was well supported by Peter Davies, 2 for 15, and Ben Istead, 1 for 15, as Glazebury withered to 57 all out.
In reply, an unbeaten knock of 29 from opener Tommy Taker saw the hosts more than half way to their required total, with Jack Moran, 14, ensuring they eased their way home in 11 overs.
Wistaston did their best to keep pace with the league’s top sides with a one-wicket win against Stalybridge St Pauls at the Brittles.
Mike Brown’s half century offered the only real resistance for the visitors as a Wistaston attack of Nazir Khan, 4 for 47, Mike Kingdom, 2 for 19, and Dean Titus, 2 for 28, restricted them to 157 for 8.
Opener Jay Titmus made his way to 25 in reply, before Jack Stokes’ 36 and Kingdom’s unbeaten 29 saw Wistaston hold on to close out 162 for 9.
