Cumberland Arena buzzing as Crewe FC trump table-topping Garswood
FOLLOWING wins against last season’s champions Knutsford and Cheshire League Division One table-toppers Garswood United, Crewe FC boss Carl Everall admits there is currently a buzz around the Cumberland Arena.
Crewe suffered a stuttering start to the season with three defeats following an unbeaten four game run, but have resurrected their campaign with victories over the league’s top-two sides.
Everall’s outfit sit eighth in the Cheshire top-flight, but with only four points separating the top 10 sides Crewe are keeping pace with the league’s frontrunners.
“There's a real buzz around the club,” said Everall. “Which is credit to the hard work put in by everyone ranging from the backroom staff to the players.
“The last two results have been top quality performances and the philosophy of how we play hasn't changed – we believed the results would soon turn our way again.
“We have had more players to pick from with key players Matt Pearson, Nath Southern and Luke Goddard returning as well as player-coach Craig Malbon, who has been a massive boost in Steve Parker’s absence.”
However, the Crewe boss insists his side must replicate the performances which have seen them record successive wins if they are to become one of the division’s heavyweights.
Crewe host Styal, who sit four places and eight points below them, at the Cumberland Arena on Saturday.
“Consistency is the key now,” he explained. “We have shown we are good enough to compete with anyone.
“But unless we show relentlessness and a consistent high standard of football we will find ourselves some way behind where we want to be.
“The next game is now the most important.“
