UNSUNG heroes from Crewe and Nantwich were among those honoured at Cheshire East’s annual sports awards.

Now in its fourth year, the event aims to recognise the time and dedication put in by volunteers, coaches, clubs and athletes to develop sport.

More than 170 people attended the awards at Cranage Hall in Holmes Chapel and a record 91 nominations were received in the 10 categories.

The winners:

* Club of the Year – Crewe and Nantwich Gymnastics Club

* Coach of the Year – Lisa Atkinson, Macclesfield Satellites

* Special Recognition – Cheshire East Special Olympic Group

* Volunteer of the Year – Christine Bell, Macclesfield Netball Club

* Young Volunteer of the Year – Vicky Cragg, Wilmslow High School

* Disabled Sports Achiever of the Year – Lauren Whalley, Cheshire Academy, Crewe

* Young Sports Achiever of the Year – Chloe Vell, dressage and netball, Prestbury

* Sports Personality of the Year – Hannah Walker, cycling, Disley

* Primary School of the Year – Wistaston Green Primary

* Secondary School of the Year – Wilmslow High

Crewe’s Victoria Perez, winner of five gold medals with the Cheshire Academy of Integrated Sport and Art at the National Special Olympic Games in Bath in October, was a runner up in the Sports Personality of the Year category.
