Crewe and Nantwich Athletics Club celebrate success at Cheshire Cross Country Championships

CREWE and Nantwich Athletics Club have a county cross country champion in their midst this week.

Josh Betteley was a clear winner of the under 15s boys’ title in Saturday’s Cheshire Championships at muddied Birchwood Forest Park in Warrington.

And with Arun Dight, seventh, and Joshua Stubbs, 20th, in support the team finished third, behind winners Vale Royal and second-placed Warrington.

Crewe and Nantwich’s under 13s girls were also among the honours.

Team bronze was achieved by Katelyn Mooney, who was fifth, Hooly Smith, 15th, and Sarah Dufour-Jackson, 15th.

There were close calls in the team events too.

Crewe and Nantwich’s under 15s girls finished fourth, courtesy of Sophie Smith, 10th, Cora Gibbons, 11th, and Charlotte Oglesby, 18th.

And the under 13s boys also came home fourth, with William Kesteven, 11th, Peter Selby, 15th, and Jack Williamson, 17th, leading the way.

There were strong performances from clubmates in the under 17s race from Jacob Brown, sixth, and Elliot Nevill, 10th, while Lauren Whittaker was seventh in the under 20s women’s race.

South Cheshire Harriers, a club serving the Crewe, Nantwich, Alsager and surrounding areas, also enjoyed some success in Warrington.

Henry Valentine collected bronze in the under 20s men’s race, while Olly Williams was not far behind in fourth.

Their men’s veterans runners took team silver courtesy of Matt Smith, fourth, Peter Mallison, fifth, Ander Mayers, 19th, and James Simpson, 21st.
