IN the quarter finals of the Crewe Liberal Club Open League current holders Pioneers A were defeated in a close contest by premiership rivals Westend LMR B.

The tie was decided on the final dominoes pairs games.

With Daniel Ayres hitting an 18 dart game the Westend LMR B held a 4-3 darts advantage and as the dominoes singles games were shared they had a 7-6 aggregate lead going into the final dominoes pairs games where the Westend LMR B’s pairing of Billy Graham/Kevin Goodwin secured the deciding victory to give them an 8-7 aggregate passage into the semis.

Westend Band Club C also had a successful night beating division one side Hop Pole A as Steve Tizard hit a 100 checkout as they won the darts 5-2 and Kevin Smith, Jane Booth and Reg Beech won the necessary singles dominoes games to give them an 8-5 aggregate victory.

Division one team Broughton are the only non premiership side left in the competition following their victory over division two opponents Horseshoe.

Broughton dominated the darts 5-1 and with Martin Lee, Amanda Smith and captain Ian Clarke winning three of the five dominoes singles games played they ran out comfortable 8-3 aggregate winners.

The other premiership side Nantwich Rd A had a 5-2 darts advantage over fourth division Cumberland C and a 4-3 dominoes lead to give them a 9-5 aggregate success.

Dave Bullock and captain and league chairman Brian Bebbington wonthe decisive dominoes pairs game.

The draw for the semi-finals to be played at the Liberal Club on 24 February is as follows:Westend Lmr B v Nantwich Rd A and Broughton Arms v Westend Band Club C.

The final will also be played on the same day following completion of the semi-finals.

In the division three darts game between Rileys A and Kings B despite losing 5-3 Rileys A remain in second place two points behind leaders Oddfellows while Kings B’s victory moves them to fourth but still ten points of the pace.Rileys darts captain Ben Snape was the player in top form with a 100 checkout.

Rileys A 5-3 dominoes win lifts them two places to sixth while Kings B remain rooted to the bottom.

In a full program of division five games the clash of the top two Willaston Club and Duke of Bridgewater B, runaway darts leaders Willaston maintained their 100% record with a 5-3 victory leaving the Duke 27 points adrift.Third placed Nags Head were held to a draw by Brunel C and are three points behind the Duke while fourth placed Rileys B are only a further point adrift after a 6-2 win over lowly Prince of Wales D.The Cheese Hall’s captain Paul Whitesmith was the player in form with an 18 dart game.

Division five dominoes leaders Brunel B were beaten 5-3 by visitors Cheese Hall and now only have a four point lead over Duke of Bridgewater B who moved into second place after a 5-3 victory over Willaston Club.Brunel C’s 6-2 success at the Nags Head puts them a further point behind in third while Rileys B drop to fourth spot after losing 7-1 to visitors Prince of Wales D.
