THE Crewe Liberal Club Open League darts pairs knockout held at the Liberal Club saw the Pioneers A pair of Fred Smith and Pete Boughey victorious in a best of five game final against Hop Pole A duo Dave Yates and Darren Walker.

Smith /Boughey took the first leg despite being on course to finish in 27 darts they struggled to finish taking nine darts to hit double one.they also had double trouble again in the second leg which allowed Yates/Walker to come from behind to win the leg to level at 1-1.

The Pies pair then took control and won the third leg and with Fred Smith hitting the winning double in leg four for a 3-1 victory and the winners prize of £100,as Yates /Walker had to settle for the runners-up prize of £50. In the semi finals Pete Boughey hit a 180 as he and Fred Smith beat fellow Pioneers team-mates Wayne Plant and John Speed 2-0 as Dave Yates and Darren Walker had a 2-0 victory over White Lion Ford Lane B pairing of Paul Goodwin and Aaron Ayres with the losing semi-finalists receiving a consolation prize of £25.

The quarter finals saw the two Pioneers pairs Smith/Boughey (2-0) and Plant/Speed (2-1) register victories against the respective Westend Lmr B pairings of Dave Bickerton/Shaun Done and Shaun Wilkinson/Pete Ayres while Yates/Walker had a 2-0 success against Rob Paine (Sydney)/Jim Hamlett(Prince C) as Paul Goodwin/Aaron Ayres(White Lion F/lane B) also had a 2-0 win against Dave Wood/Jules Wilde (Cosey).

Top finish of 125 in the early rounds was throw by Hop Pole’s Dave Yates while 180s were hit by Dave Bickerton (Westend Lmr B), Lee Moffatt (Vine A), Shaun Wilkinson (Westend Lmr B) Jordon Bradley (Brunel A) and Pete Boughey (Pioneers A).

The final of the subsidiary darts singles knockout for players knocked out in the early rounds of the pairs competition was an all Cosey Club affair between Bobby Baynham and Mark Jodrill, Jodrill took the first leg in 23 darts with Baynham successful in the second leg and then going on to win the third and decisive leg in 21 darts to take the first prize of £20 with Jodrill taking the runner-up prize of £12.

In the semi-final Bobby Baynham beat Steve Tizard (Westend Band C) 2-1 and Mark Jodrill won the second leg in 13 darts in his 2-0 success against Clive Lucking (Earl of Chester).
