CREWE Judo Club’s judoka Lewis Kirk bowed out in the British Judo Association Kyu Grades Open Tournament semi final in Nottingham on his debut.
The 19-year-old, who holds a yellow belt in judo, has trained at Crewe Judo Club for six months.
He faced a tough category to begin his judo career in the Men’s under 100kg category, despite only missing the under 90kg category by less than a kilogram.
Kirk secured victory inside 12 seconds in his first contest before beating the tournament favourite with an ’uchi-mate’ throw, but had to settle for a bronze medal after semi final defeat.
Coach Chris Sharpe said: “Lewis always puts 100 per cent effort into his training and is always keen to learn something new. He did himself, his family and Crewe Judo Club proud.”
Crewe Judo Club runs classes for students from five years of age at The Georges Community Centre.
The club is starting a new adult class for beginners. For more information visit crewejudoclub.com or email crewejudoclub@hotmail.com
