CREWE Flyers’ built on their recent promotion success with an impressive performance at the Cheshire County Championship.

Swimmers competed in more than 200 races at Macclesfield and Liverpool, with the 38 Flyers members performing well in the annual event.

Flyers collected 14 medals throughout the championships, seven of those by Grace Farr. She scooped one gold, two silver medals and bronze as well as reaching the 100m freestyle final.

Ben Hindbest impressed with two bronze medals and a 100m butterfly final place, while Zak Fielding, in his first championship, made two top three finishes, qualified for the 100m breaststroke final and secured a spot in the regional championships.

Ryan Rimmer had an excellent championship, going under one minute in the 100m freestyle; he also gained a bronze medal in the 50m backstroke and qualified for the regional championships in the 400m.

Stuart Eastwood returned with a silver medal in the 1,500m freestyle and will compete next month in the regional championships, as will Finnula Hall for the first time for Crewe.

To cap an impressive final weekend the boys’ open team of Scott Coutts , Lloyd Austin , Ben Buckley and Ben Cleaveley gained a deserved silver. Coutts also qualified for the 100m backstroke final.

“An impressive performance from all the swimmers who are now getting the rewards for all their hard work,” said Dave Mears.

Jack Wilne made his county championships debut, while Mike Eastwood, Stuart Eastwood, Aaron Glover and Bradley Hinbest also competed for the boys’ team.

Girls making their debut included Nadia Barr, Kate Brassington, Rachel Bradshaw, Georgia Prestwich, Charlotte Rowlands and Francessa Timmis.

Eleanor Bloor, Bryony Crank, Emma Duff, Georgia Farr Bethany Moore and Issabelle Pountain completed the girls’ team.

Crewe Flyers’ relay teams also included Joe Stather, Brendan Conway, Ewan Cameron, Oliver Torjussen, Ben Woolley, Leah Cooper, Lilli-Ann Cummings, Alice Dunning, Rebecca Stacchini, Katie Holding and Lucy Shufflebotham.

The club is looking for new swimmers of all ages, five and over, and abilities, visit Flag Lane Baths in Crewe on Tuesday nights.
