CREWE Alexandra missed a golden chance to steal three valuable points against Bristol City on Saturday and instead had to settle for a draw.
A point moved Steve Davis’ outfit out of the drop zone and put their League One future in their own hands with one game remaining.
A win at home against Preston North End this Saturday would guarantee Crewe’s safety, as would equalling the results of Tranmere and Carlisle United.
But Matt Tootle’s miss from six yards with four minutes remaining on Saturday could then prove vital, the defender fired wide from Mathias Pogba’s pass.
Pogba himself missed the ball completely when well-placed after six minutes and the forward had the better of Crewe’s first half chances, striking wide and seeing another effort blocked.
Marlon Pack wound up a 35-yard drive, Jay Emmanuel-Thomas’ back-heeled effort was blocked and substitute Martin Paterson went close for City, but it was relegation-threatened Crewe left rueing Tootle’s missed chance
