THE Crewe Open League James Goodwin Memorial darts singles knockout played at the Liberal Club was dominated by Pioneers A team-mates Fred Smith and Pete Boughey.

They both reached the final with Smith hitting outstanding form to come out on top 3-0 in the best of five legs, hitting 17 darts and then 13 darts in the second leg including a 180.

He finalised with an 18 dart leg to receive the Memorial Trophy and winner’s cash prize of £80, while opponent Boughey settled for the runners-up prize of £40.

In the semi-final Smith hit a brace of 20 dart legs to inflict a 2-0 defeat on Danny Ayres(Westend Lmr B) leaving him with the losing semi-finalist prize of £20.

In the other semi-final between Boughey and Ken Greenall (Rileys A), Greenall took the first leg in 24 darts only for Boughey to respond winning the second leg in 14 darts which included a 180 and won his place in the final with a decisive 17 darts for a 2-1 victory.

Greenall took the £20 losing semi-finalist prize.

In the quarter finals Smith was in top form beating Craig Simpson (Cosey Club) 2-0 hitting 14 and 18 dart legs as Boughey also won 2-0 with similar 14 and 18 dart legs in his defeat of Lee Woolley (Brunel A).

The other winners in the quarter finals were Greenall who beat Lee Moffatt (Pioneers A) 2-1 and Ayres who hit a 15 darter with 160 checkout in his 2-0 defeat of Rob Arrowsmith (Westend Band C).

In the earlier rounds of the competition Pioneers A players were the men in form led by Smith with three 180s and 17 darts and Moffatt, 12 darts including a 180 finishing with a 121 checkout and 17 darts.

Other top arrows were produced by Ayres, with 15 and 16 darts, Shaun Wilkinson(Westend Lmr B) 18 darts, Rob Arrowsmith (Westend Band C) 18 darts including a 180 and 115 checkout, Craig Simpson(Cosey Club) 15 darts and a 134 finish and Mark Jodrill (Cosey Club a brace of 180s.
