CREWE'S Stuart Bloor was once again pinching himself in amazement as his incredible 2014 season got even better at the Sainsbury’s Anniversary Games.

Last week saw Bloor compete at Hampden Park, the athletics venue for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, against an international T54 1500m field, including six-time Paralympic champion David Weir.

And Bloor was back out against the Weirwolf on Sunday, this time amid the iconic backdrop of The Mall as he played his part in the Anniversary Games, celebrating two years since the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics.

Tenth in the 1500m in Glasgow, it was a one-mile race for Bloor in the capital and, while Weir once again claimed the win, the 26-year-old more than held his own as he crossed the line in 3:37.00 minutes.

It was 17 seconds behind Weir’s winning time but Bloor admitted that just being in such esteemed company meant the day was a success regardless.

“It was amazing to be a part of that on The Mall, so much different to Glasgow last week,” said Bloor, who hopes to compete throughout the Summer Series.

“Having people so close to the road was incredible and the atmosphere was unbelievable. It is the first time I have actually done a mile so it was strange doing that distance.

“But it was a really good race, very quick and perhaps I just lost it at the end. It is all just a big learning curve for me and it is a great time for me.

“It is something I couldn’t have imagined doing coming into this year, competing here and at the Diamond League, so it’s fantastic that I have.”

And, after getting a taste for things to come in the future for him in London, Bloor is hopeful 2014 isn’t his one and only Sainsbury’s Anniversary Games outing.

“I think an event like this is a fantastic idea because the crowd really get into it and it is something they can get to see for free,” he added.

“I would love to do something like this again and I think we should have more events like this in the future – it is a great idea.”
