CREWE Alexandra have reportedly made a bid to sign highly-rated Ilkeston FC striker Che Adams.

Premier League and Championship clubs have been keeping tabs on the 18-year-old, who has already bagged nine goals this season.

However, it appears the Alex decided to move first, allegedly with a deal which could rise to five figures in order to get their man.

The ambitious Evo-Stik NPL outfit have indicated they will not stand in the way of Adams, who has emerged from their academy in style.

Meanwhile, Steve Davis is hoping for quick revenge over Sheffield United.

Having lost 1-0 to the Blades last month, the Alex boss wants his players fired up for Saturday’s FA Cup first round clash at Gresty Road.

“I’ve always liked the thought of the FA Cup,” he explained. “I was hoping we’d get a non-league club.

“It’s nice to go somewhere where you’ve never been but it wasn’t to be.

“It doesn’t really matter, it’s the first round and it always has that magic the FA Cup has got.

“They reached the semi finals last season and they’ve got a good history in the competition.

“They’ve already beaten us at home and we’ll be looking to turn that around this time.

“I want us to give it everything we’ve got and that’s what I expect from the players.”

Both Rotherham’s Febian Brandy and Notts County loanee Danny Haynes will not be available.

However, Alan Tate, Jamie Ness and Greg Leigh have all been granted permission to play by their respective clubs.

George Ray serves the second game of his three-match suspension, but Anthony Grant is back after missing last weekend’s 1-1 draw at Crawley Town.

Brad Inman is back in training but Matt Tootle remains a doubt after illness.

“It looks to have eased off a bit,” continued Davis. “Grant is available again and Chris Atkinson came through the Crawley game fine.

“Tate has been back to Swansea for treatment so we’ll see how he has progressed. Toots is getting better but I think the game will come too early for him.

“We should have about three back with Brad so that will give us options.”

Davis says he will continue to try and look after hot prospect George Cooper.

The 18-year-old scored his second of the season against Crawley.

“He can make things happen and make something out of nothing,” he added “He’s one of those players who can become special if he can continue to do that.

“It’s very early in his career and there will be times where he has a loss of form.

“We have to manage that and he’s not going to play well every week.”
