NANTWICH Town had some dedicated volunteers to thank for Sunday’s game against FC United of Manchester getting the go ahead, but Danny Johnson’s side were unable to deliver a result.

Dabbers took the lead in the first half thanks to Iain Howard, but their stuttering start to 2015 continued as the hosts fought back to secure a win through second half goals from Tom Greaves and Craig Linfield.

Johnson was disappointed with the result, having watched his side lead for more than an hour.

After taking the lead on seven minutes from Howard’s 25-yard strike, Dabbers let the game slip from their grasp in the last 21 minutes.

“We have not taken our chances in the first half,” he said.

“We have kept ourselves wide open to what FC United do.

“They did it at our place and they have done it again. So we are really disappointed because I thought the lads did ever so well.

“It was individual mistakes that cost us. So, bitterly disappointed, but we dust ourselves down and go again against Trafford next week.”

Johnson did reserve praise for the FC United fans who volunteered to clear snow off the pitch before the game at Stalybridge Celtic’s Bower Fold ground.

“It was a magnificent effort, absolutely great from the volunteers who had come down and took the snow off the pitch and, you know, fair play to them,” said the Nantwich boss.

“They spent all day here Sunday and that is what non-league football is all about.”
