BRAD Inman says Crewe Alexandra must go for it in Saturday’s vital clash against fellow strugglers Leyton Orient.

Easter Monday’s 1-0 defeat at Chesterfield saw the Alex fall back into the bottom four with just five games left to secure their future in League One.

And with goal difference separating the two sides, it could all hang on what happens this weekend.

“Like the gaffer said after the Chesterfield game, it’s not over,” he explained.

“We’ve got five games to go and we’ve got to go into every game like it’s our last.

“We’ve got to keep fighting for each other and to keep Crewe in this league.

“There are lots of teams fighting relegation so hopefully we can win on Saturday and give us some momentum to avoid a fight on the final day.

“I think we’ve got to go for it.

“We need to win to build up some space away from them so we need to just go out and play attacking football to get the points.

“We have to be ruthless and take our chances.

“I don’t know if it’s confidence lately because I think we have quite a confident bunch of players.

“It’s just when things don’t seem to be going your way, it’s as if the ball doesn’t want to hit the back of the net.”

Both Nicky Ajose and Uche Ikpeazu have struggled for goals recently but Inman insists it’s not a confidence issue.

Dropped from the squad recently, the forward will be hoping to keep his place for Saturday’s relegation six-pointer after looking Crewe’s best threat at Chesterfield.

‘“I’ve not played a lot but I’ve been working hard in training and in the under 21s games, I’ve tried to put that onto the pitch,” he added.

“Hopefully my ability can help the team.

“I’ve had a tough season but that’s football.

“I’ve got to keep working, coming back strong and try to help the lads in these final five games.”

Boss Steve Davis says he’s staying positive.

“I thought Brad did fine and was a threat against Chesterfield,” he explained.

“Uche worked hard but ran out of legs and it didn’t come off.

“The disappointing thing is after a decent first half, we weren’t able to build on it.

“But I’m going to stay positive.

“I’m not going to shore it up because I don’t think we’re good at that.

“I wanted three forwards on the pitch against Chesterfield but it didn’t work and I’ll look at it again for Orient.

“Ryan (Colclough) needs minutes on the pitch and we’re being cautious with him because he was out for a long time.

“We need everyone to be ready to step up.”
