TABLE-topping Nantwich Town trailed at the break against Grantham Town on Saturday but bounced back to record a storming 6-2 success.

They then won 4-0 at Barwell on Tuesday night, thanks to a second-half Liam Shotton hat-trick and goal for Josh Gordon.

But goalkeeping coach Chris Parkes says it was Saturday’s comeback that showed the Dabbers’ character.

Steve Jones and Josh Hancock both netted twice, with Shotton and Matty Kosylo also on target at the Weaver Stadium.

“To go in 2-1 down at half time was a blow but they came out and showed great character and togetherness,” said Parkes. “You could see this in abundance throughout the second half and what a performance it was.

“They worked hard for themselves and each other and the last goal summed it up perfectly for me.

“All the camaraderie and team spirit the lads have by playing 100 per cent right to the end of the game, even at 5-2 up.

“They could have relaxed but wanted more goals and Lewis Short squared to Josh Hancock to allow him to pass it into the net for the final goal to seal another victory.

“That in itself shows great team spirit we have got at this club. A great fightback from 1-2 down and then to keep playing amazing football until we win 6-2. That will be great for the confidence within the dressing room.”

But Parkes says it was the hosts' own fault for being behind at the break.

“The gaffer Phil Parkinson was not happy at half time and rightly so," he added.

“They haven’t undone us with their play. They have undone us with our mistakes and that’s why we went in 2-1 down at half time. How that happened I’ll never know!

“We hadn’t played well at all, but I still think we were still the better side in the first half. But we needed to be better and the gaffer spelt that out to the players.”
