STEVE Davis wants more from his Crewe Alexandra forwards as they target three big points at recovering Blackpool on Saturday.

Crewe bounced back from their last-gasp defeat at home to Gillingham with a solid performance to earn a 0-0 draw at high-flying Burton on Tuesday night.

The Alex made it four unbeaten on the road in League One with a battling defensive display but the boss felt they could have done more, mustering just one shot on target over the 90.

‘We defended well, worked hard and got our reward in the end,” said Davis.

“We knew they would come out with a fast start but we managed to get through it.

“They play a high-energy game and they are possibly the most energetic side in the league so you have to match it and be better.

“We had a few spells but we didn’t cause them enough problems and we need to sort that out.

“That’s seven of the top eight we’ve played now and there hasn’t been a great deal in those games.

“Obviously we want to be winning them and we are capable of doing it.

“There’s a terrific spirit and bond within the group and I think that’s what got us through.

“There is still a long way to go and a lot of points still to play for.

“We have to take that confidence into Blackpool on Saturday and try and build on what we have achieved on the road.”

George Ray played with a protective mask despite suffering a fractured cheekbone in the JPT defeat against Wigan earlier this month.

“I didn’t want to pick anyone out because I though they were all excellent but George Ray did typify that spirit,” added Davis.

“I asked him a couple of days ago about how he felt and he said he was fine to play in the mask so I decided to throw him in.

“He’s been training on his own because of the contact issue but he felt good enough and I thought both him and Ben were excellent back there.

“It was heroic to come in like that after a couple of weeks.”

Davis reiterated he will not be looking for loan reinforcements anytime soon.

“I want to give all of our players a go first now,” he continued.

“There may come a time when we have to look at it differently but at the moment we’ve stuck with this squad and I think think they are capable.

“The performances have been fine and I can’t criticise their effort, I see now need to change it and I do think they’ll get better.

“I’ll address it if I have to as we don’t want to leave it too long to push ourselves up the league.”
