NANTWICH Town knocked Salford City out of the FA Trophy on Saturday to set up a home clash with Kings Lynn in the second qualifying round.

Elliot Osborne and Steve Jones struck for the Dabbers to cancel out Stephen Howson’s early effort for the Class of ‘92-backed outfit.

Southern League Premier Division side Kings Lynn Town will now visit the Weaver Stadium on Saturday, November 14.

With FA Cup matters on their mind, Salford named a much-changed line up to avoid any injuries before their game against Notts County tomorrow, Friday.

However it was the visitors who opened the scoring on four minutes from a corner whipped into the near post and headed home by Howson.

Captain Sam Hall and Osborne were to go close before the 15-minute mark. But both found their way to goal blocked by former Fleetwood Town and Bury keeper Craig Dootson.

But the Cheshire outfit only had to wait two more minutes for the equalising goal. Osborne was on the wing when he cut inside and hit a shot which beat Dootson in the far corner.

Jon Moran went close from a Jones corner, watching his header hit the underside of the bar.

And Dabbers took the lead in an action-packed first half when Jones skipped inside the area from the right before unleashing a powerful drive past Dootson to give Nantwich the lead just seven minute before the break.

The former Northern Ireland international hit the net again before the interval, but was ruled offside.

Liam Shotton and Osborne both went close after half time, while Matty Kosylo could have made the game safe 10 minutes from time only to strike over the bar after cutting in off the left.

Shotton beat Salford stopper Dootson with the last play of the match, but watched his shot on the run strike an upright.

Phil Parkinson's side return to league action on Saturday, when they visit Stamford.
