Nantwich’s Douglas Crosbie and Crewe’s Mick Whitehead were in action with their 1600cc racing cars in the very competitive Formula Ford 1600cc Northern Championship at Oulton Park at the weekend.
Having qualified in second place, Crosbie grabbed the lead into the first corner but lost it on the second lap.
A thrilling battle then took place with Crosbie defending his second place but losing it on the last lap to a slightly aggressive overtake manoeuvre and finishing third overall.
The second race was more satisfying and Crosbie started from second and held his position on a tricky damp track to secure a second trip to the podium.
Meanwhile Mick Whitehead (in his first Formula Ford race having switched from another race series), was ‘finding his way’ in this tough race series and considering the learning curve he was on, he was pleased to have finished both his races.
