NATHAN Gorman’s clash with Sheffield giant Dave Howe has been added to Hatton Promotions and Black Country Boxing’s Danger Zone card on Sunday July 24.

The match-up was originally set to take place on the big Tyson Fury v Wladimir Klitschko bill in Manchester, but an injury sustained by Fury led to the show being postponed until the autumn.

It’s a huge step-up in class for the highly-rated Gorman, 20, as Howe has engaged in 13 professional contests and won 11.

However, trainer and four-time world champion Ricky Hatton feels it is exactly the sort of test his young protégé needs at this stage of his career.

“It was a shame that Tyson got injured and the Manchester Arena bill was called off, but at least Nathan has still got his best test to date,” Hatton said.

“Of course, fighting in such a huge arena and on BoxNation would have been great for Nathan’s career, but this kid is going all the way and they’ll be plenty more big nights for him in the future.

“This is a cracking little card for the fight as well and I’m proud of what my team has put together. We’ve got one of my other lads, Anthony Upton, fighting for the English title against Luke Paddock and it’s a good stage for Nathan to show people what he can do.

“Dave Howe is about 6ft 8ins and has a good record so he’ll be coming to give Nathan all he’s got. It’s a test I expect Nathan to pass with flying colours, although he won’t have it all his own way.”

Gorman v Howe features on a bill that is topped by Bloxwich’s Luke Paddock taking on Essex’s Anthony Upton, trained by Ricky Hatton, for the vacant English super-lightweight title.

Fellow Ricky Hatton trained fighters Sam Evans, Reuben Arrowsmith and Sonny Upton also feature alongside Birmingham’s English super-bantamweight champion Sean Davis and Derby’s Sahib Singh Mann, who is set to make his debut.

Swadlincote super-middleweight Zach Parker and Burton featherweight Leon Gower complete the card.

The show takes place at Chase Leisure Centre, Stafford Road, Cannock, Staffordshire, WS11 4AL.

Tickets, priced at £30 and £60 Ringside, are available by calling 01543 504 065. The show takes place on Sunday afternoon with doors opening at 12.30pm.
