ON-LOAN Crewe Alexandra winger Alex Kiwomya says he is enjoying his time at the club after an impressive start to his Gresty Road career.

The 20-year-old is on a temporary deal with The Alex until January and has played a key role in their solid start to the season.

In fact, three goals and several assists have seen him nominated for August’s Sky Bet League Two Player of the Month award.

“To be nominated means I am doing my job, that I have made an impact and people are noticing it,” Kiwomya told crewealex.net.

“Teams are starting to double up on me so I have to add more to my game.

“I am very happy about the nomination, to me it is a massive thing. I want to win it and get a nomination next month, and the month after.”

On Saturday, Kiwomya helped the Railwaymen to their first home victory of the season as they struck late to beat Doncaster Rovers.

Ryan Lowe’s early opener for the hosts was cancelled out by Tommy Rowe’s penalty, but James Jones fired in the winner with three minutes remaining.

The Alex currently sit tenth in the League Two table on nine points, one outside the play-off places, ahead of Saturday’s home clash with Exeter City.

Former England youth international Kiwomya, who has also enjoyed loan spells at Barnsley and Fleetwood Town after joining Chelsea from Rotherham United, says he is still getting used to the intensity of senior football but adds his time with the club has been “refreshing”.

“I’m really enjoying it, I’ve settled in really well with the lads. I’m playing really well and getting minutes, getting goals and assists so I can’t ask for much more,” he said.

“I knew it would be good but I didn’t think I’d settle in this well, that I’d get on so good with the lads and that we’d support each other so much.

“It is always refreshing to come to a different club and find that everyone is together and wanting the same thing.

“I am working my way into it, coming up with goals and assists is an added bonus and what the gaffer has brought me here to do.”

Meanwhile, The Alex have also confirmed contract extensions for academy graduates Callum Ainley and Charlie Kirk.

The pair’s original deals were due to expire at the end of the season but both have penned fresh terms tying them to Gresty Road until summer 2018.

Kirk and Ainley graduated through the club’s famed youth system and were both offered professional deals part way through their two-year scholarships.

Midfielder Ainley, 18, has gone on to make 22 appearances and score two goals for Steve Davis’ side, while striker Kirk, also 18, has appeared 19 times for The Alex.
