Warrington Town 2 Nantwich Town 3

A LAST-GASP winner from Sean Cooke completed a stunning Nantwich comeback as they returned from Cheshire rivals Warrington with three points.

Cooke curled home a superb free-kick, his second goal of the game, in the dying moments to ensure Phil Parkinson’s men remained unbeaten away from home this season.

Despite dominating much of the game, the Dabbers trailed 2-0 with ten minutes remaining at Cantilever Park until goals from Cooke and Curtis Jones dragged them level.

Town made a lively start, with Theo Stair’s early effort forcing a good save from home keeper Karl Wills, but they found themselves behind after ten minutes.

Scott Metcalfe escaped down the left and his pull-back found Lewis Codling in space to beat Dave Parton at his near post The visitors enjoyed plenty of possession but failed to trouble Wills as Warrington defended stoutly, with Andy White coming closest before the break when his shot was deflected inches wide.

The second half followed a similar pattern, with the Dabbers patiently probing but finding the hosts in no mood to concede.

They doubled their lead when Mike Grogan knocked down a corner which caused panic in the visitors defence, allowing Jay McCarten to steer home.

That looked to have wrapped up the points for Warrington, but the Dabbers had other ideas and were back in the game when a poor defensive clearance allowed Cooke to stab home.

Parkinson’s side equalised when Jones rose high above the home defence from Cooke’s corner to plant a powerful header into the bottom corner.

Neither side was willing to settle for a point, with substitute Dave Walker being denied only by a superb save from Wills.

However, a free-kick was awarded seconds later and Cooke left the home keeper rooted to the spot with an exquisite strike to send the travelling fans into delirium.
