Mossley 1 Nantwich Town 2

A YOUNG Dabbers side pulled off a superb late comeback at Mossley to reach the Integro League Cup second round.

They trailed their opponents, who ply their trade in the division below, at half-time thanks to Mike Fish’s goal but Dave Walker equalised with time running out.

Theo Stair’s delightful free-kick made it eight wins in a row in all competitions.

Phil Parkinson’s side also advanced to the Third Qualifying Round of the FA Trophy on Saturday with a 2-0 home victory over Kendal Town, courtesy of goals from Josh Hancock and a Stuart McDonald own goal.

The Dabbers struggled in the early stages of Tuesday’s game as they adjusted to the demands of a tricky playing surface.

Walker shot just wide when played through, but Mossley got the game’s opening goal just before the half-hour mark.

Andy Keogh played in Dave Short, whose pull-back found an unmarked Fish and he rolled the ball home.

Mossley’s tails were up and Short fired just over the bar as they sought a second goal, with Ben Harrison heading wide at the other end.

Parkinson brought on Hancock for the second half in an effort to get back into the game and he was immediately into the action, dragging a shot wide before firing another shot over.

He was presented with a golden opportunity to equalise when the visitors were awarded a penalty for a foul on Ibou Touray, but his spot-kick was saved.

However, the miss didn’t deter the Dabbers and they equalised when Touray’s cross from the left was headed home by Walker.

Nantwich were now fully on top and, with just four minutes left, Hancock was fouled 25 yards from goal and Stair stepped up to curl a superb effort into the top corner.

Parkinson’s side welcome Spennymoor Town to Weaver Stadium, kick off 3pm.
