DESPITE freezing conditions and poor visibility, Crewe Vagrants eventually saw off stubborn opponents Oxton to record a 5-2 victory.

Chris Regan and Hendrick Willenbrinck both scored twice as Vagrants stay second in the North West Men’s League Division Two West.

The hosts started well and opened the scoring after five minutes when Willenbrinck converted a short corner.

Regan opened his account with a drag flick before Oxton grabbed a close-range strike to half the deficit before the break.

The visitors began the second half positively but it was Vagrants who grabbed the all-important fourth goal of the contest when Regan again slammed home.

Oxton immediately hit back to stay in touch, but Willenbrinck converted his second corner to double the hosts’ lead again.

Any nerves among the home ranks were settled when Phil Robinson scored a fine solo goal to seal the win.

Vagrants are on the road on Saturday when they travel to bottom side Winnington Park, push back 12.30pm.
