Buxton 4 Nantwich Town 3

A POOR 15-minute spell proved costly for Nantwich as they exited the Integro League Cup at the second round stage.

Hosts and fellow Evo-Stik Premier Division side Buxton scored three times in quick succession either side of half time to seal defeat for Phil Parkinson’s much-changed side.

They fell behind early in the contest when a fine cross from the right allowed Alistair Taylor to put Buxton ahead after just two minutes.

Matty Ashbrook headed just wide and Joel Stair had an effort cleared off the line as The Dabbers pressed before finally equalising after half an hour when Steve Jones bundled home after a fine team move.

However, Buxton re-took the lead on the stroke of half time when a foul on Jamie Jackson inside the area allowed Bradley Grayson to convert a penalty.

The hosts grabbed the initiative with both hands with two goals in five minutes after the break. First, Jackson then coolly slotted past Dabbers keeper Dan Gyollai before Grayson netted another from the spot after Nicky Walker was fouled.

After Khallem Bailey-Nicholls pulled one back for Nantwich, they had a chance to close the gap further when they were awarded a penalty of their own for handball.

However, Jones’ penalty was saved by keeper Jack Barlow.

Jones pulled a further goal back in the final minute, but it was too late for his side to force extra-time.
