EMILY Martin was not fazed by a last-minute course change when she finished as leading woman at Warrington Road Club’s 50-mile time trial last weekend.

The Weaver Valley Cycling Club member celebrated a second win of the campaign, and in style too, after finishing more than four minutes ahead of her closest-rival.

She stopped the clock in 2:09.34, while Joanna Cebrat (Bury Clarion CC) took second spot in 2:13.51.

Michelle Fairclough (Salford CC) was third.

Lynsey Astles, a clubmate of Martin, finished in a creditable fifth position after her first attempt in competition at the distance.

Roadworks prompted the organisers to switch to a back-up course on roads between Cranage, Byley and Lach Dennis to accommodate a field of more than 100 riders.

More than a quarter of those reached the finish in less than two hours.

Sam Taylor, another making his 50-mile debut, was the highest-ranked Weaver Valley rider in 16th position after timing 1:58.40.

Stuart Ward (2:02.13) and Andy Milligan (2:03.31) completed the club’s contingent in a men’s category won by Darren Maironis (Transition RT) in 1:49.16 – the only rider to dip below 1:50.00 in favourable conditions.
