SANDBACH rider Christopher Stones, left, suffered a bitter disappointment in the closely fought Avon Tyres Formula Ford 1600 Northern Championship at Oulton Park over the Jubilee bank holiday weekend.

The early drizzle did not start to clear away until later in the day, meaning that conditions were slick during the morning qualifying sessions.

That did not stop Stones from giving himself a great chance of a result when qualiying in seventh for the main race in his pre-1990 Van Diemen RF88 Formula Ford single seater.

Unfortunately, the race itself was not as successful and a problem with the car meant that he was unable to finish the first lap.

CREWE’S Mark Copeland, above, missed out on a podium finish in the British Motorcycle Racing Club 2012 Championship at Oulton Park over the Jubilee weekend. Riding his Suzuki 650 SV in the BMCRC Michelin Rookie Minitwins race series, Copeland qualified for the first of the two races in fourth place out of 20 riders in the series. But despite two consistent runs and some close races, he was unable to finish better than fifth place in either race.
