SCATTERED showers during the Hottrax Championship motorcycle racing at Oulton Park gave Crewe resident Jamie Harrison (pictured) reasons to be both delighted and subdued.

Qualifying for the two races went well for Jamie riding a 600cc Honda CBR 600 in the Parkitt MotoGrande 600 Championship races series, claiming fifth spot in a field of more than 30 riders from around the country.

In the first race Jamie made an excellent start in the rush to the first corner making up a few places but couldn’t keep all of his initial gain throughout the rest of that lap and had dropped back to a still respectable 4th place. For the next few laps, he both gained and lost a couple of places, especially when short rain showers occurred. However, Jamie had chosen a tyre combination that suited the expected variable conditions and that paid off towards the end of the 9 lap race when he climbed up to finish in 2nd place. This was due to the other front runners making mistakes in the wet while Jamie kept it on the track.

For the second race, starting again from fifth place with a good start saw him keep up with the leaders but the motorcycle didn’t feel as comfortable on the damp track as it had in the previous race.

He settled down and spent quite a few laps in 8th place but rose to finish in seventh place when the race leader went off the track in the damp conditions on a previous lap.

Overall, Jamie was happy with his weekend’s racing, he had won some silver, the bike was undamaged and he had a reasonable result for the other race.
