Great Scott wins at Ullswater

CREWE Flyers swimmer Scott Coutts raised nearly £1000 for charity after battling the adverse weather conditions and freezing water temperatures to win the Ullswater Epic Mile Swim.

The 16-year-old was disappointed not to be able to swim in the scheduled Great North Swim on Lake Windemere several weeks earlier, and feeling the need to honour the kind pledges of his donors, decided to still take part in the swim.

On a cloudy, windy Sunday in Ullswater, Scott lined up with 500 other competitors and surprised himself and his supporters by winning the men's one mile race, which involved a double loop of the course near Glenridding Yacht Club. Scott’s time of 21min 30 sec was a great effort in choppy water and helped his chosen charity, Research into Ovarian Cancer, with a sizeable chunk of money to aid their research.
