Pioneers end the season as unbeaten darts champions

THE final full week’s matches in the Crewe Liberal Club Open League resolved all but Division 5 darts runners-up and the second promotion place.
Premier Division Darts top places were already resolved, although champions Pioneers A kept up the pressure to the end, their 6-2 defeat of runners-up W/End LMR B leaving them unbeaten all season. Top arrows came from the Pi’s duo John Cooper and Pete Boughey with 14 darters, and to round it off they paired up in a 33 darts pairs win.
Not wanting to be left out team mate John Speed won in 16 and 18 darts and clinched the Pi’s victory with a 27 dart pairs win with Fred Smith. Chris Townsend (LMR B) hit a 17 dart leg and Mick Hassall (Vine A) and Ben Fletcher (Express A) 18 darters, Ben including a 174 high score in his. Ben Davies (Cosey) won in 19 and 20 darts and joined Bobby Baynham in a 27 dart pairs win in which Bobby hit two 180’s and Robbie Arrowsmith (Band C) one. Tony Swindells (Cosey) hit a 20 dart leg and Terry Smith (Band C) a maximum 180.
Division 1 darts champions Flying Lady A beat Express B 5-3 to finish seven points ahead of Rockwood, who clinched runners-up berth with a 7-1 walloping of Amalgamated A. Steve Hughes (Woodside) hit a 20 darter, Keith Betley (Bridge C) a 124 checkout on the bull and Dene Smith (Cheese) a 104 finish. Dan Smith (Broughton), Clive Lucking (Rockwood) and Amals A pair Mark Woolrich and Ken Wrighton hit 180s and Mick Whitfield (Lady A) high scored with a 177.
Division 2 Darts top two Horse Shoe clinched the Champions tag with a 7-1 annihilation of hosts Rileys A, leaving the Kings A, held to a draw at Amalgamated B, as runners-up. Dave Gaffney (Nomads) included a 180 in a 14 dart leg and Cliff Williams (Shoe), Daryll Taylor (Kings A) and John Griffiths (White Lion A) hit respective 16, 17 and 18 darters. Campbell Eaton (Duke A) hit a 21 dart leg and Andy Sinclair (Shoe), Rileys A’s sole winner Jamie Thomasson and Steve Mellor (Amals B) respective 102, 104 and 156 finishes. Maximum 180s came from Gary Hawkins (Bridge A) and Craig Simpson (Duke A).
Division 3 Darts Champions White Lion B hit hosts Dishers B for seven, as did Waldron A in their match at Liberal that clinched their Runners-Up place. Paul Tomkinson (Coppenhall Club) hit a 15 dart leg, Ken Greenall (Waldron A) and Ryan Proctor (White Lion A) 19 darters, Daron Riley (Sydney Arms) a 107 finish and team mate Steve Watson a 180.
Division 4 Darts top two places were already sorted, with Prince’s C and E enhancing them with respective 5-3 and 7-1 victories over Duke of Bridgewater B and Cumberland C.
Division 5 Darts saw Flying Lady C crowned Champions place after a 7-1 defeat of Rileys B, while Swan & Chequers need one point to be runners-up. Division 6 Darts Champions Oddfellows Club won 5-3 at Foresters B and Brunel C clinched runners-up place with a 7-1 win at Rising Sun B.
