STEVE Davis expects Arsenal starlet Chuks Aneke to have a big impact on Crewe’s festive fixtures.

The 19-year-old has extended his loan spell for another month after playing a key role in their rise up League One.

Despite bagging four goals and three assists so far, the Alex boss believes there is more to come from the youngster who was substituted at half-time in last Saturday’s late 1-0 victory over Bury.

“Chucks is different to what we have, he goes off both feet, can take a goal and play that telling pass,” explained Davis.

“I just didn’t feel he did enough out of possession last Saturday and we needed something better when we didn’t have the ball.

“But he’s done well overall, settled into the group and scored 4 goals which is a good return from midfield.

“I still think there is more to come from him; this is his first real taste of playing first-team football.

“So he’ll play his part and I’m sure he’ll have a big impact on the month.”

Davis says he’ll utilise his full squad to try and make sure 11th-placed Crewe wrap up a golden year in style.

Both AJ Leitch-Smith and Kelvin Mellor are back in training as the Alex look to negotiate four games in 11 days.

Crewe host in-form Bournemouth on Saturday before travelling to leaders Tranmere (Boxing Day) and Oldham (December 29).

They kick off 2013 at home to Carlisle United on New Year’s Day.

“With the amount of games coming up, it’s good to have an almost clean bill of health,” added Davis.

“Having a squad is helpful in case you need to juggle it around otherwise players have got to play through a knock or if they’ve lost form.

“It’s healthy to have players who want to play every game but the reality of stepping up to this league is that they are not going to be able to.

“There will be times we need to freshen it up.

“We’ve got a tough Christmas looking at the fixture list.

“It’s not going to be easy but we go into it in good form.

“We’re four points off the play-offs and looking up not down which is a big positive.

“As long as we continue to look up coming out of Christmas, I’ll be more than happy.

“We’ve had a good year and it would be nice to cap it off with a good result at home on Saturday.”
