STEVE Davis says his Alex cup heroes must focus on Saturday’s trip to Notts County despite earning the right to make history.

Only an absolutely disaster at Gresty Road in two weeks would now prevent Crewe from reaching Wembley in successive seasons.

Brad Inman’s double and a goal from AJ Leitch-Smith secured a stunning 3-0 victory against Coventry on Tuesday night.

Almost 30,000 people were left in total shock as the Railwaymen upset the odds to take control of JPT Northern Final.

Within reach of masterminding a first for the club, Davis insists the league must remain priority.

“We had to ride our luck at times and you need that against good sides with a partisan crowd behind them,” he said.

“But the game plan worked for us.

“We set out to frustrate them and restrict their opportunities – they had a lot to be fair and we’re realistic that it could have been different.

“Having said that, we defended superbly and there was some real grit and determination.

“I can only praise each and every one of them, they put a lot of hard work in but we know there is still work to be done in the second leg.

“Now we focus on Saturday and Notts County.

“That is still the most important thing for me because we want to do well in the league.”

Remaining tickets are now likely to be snapped up to make the second leg on Wednesday, February 20 a sell-out as Crewe look to compete the job in style.

But first the Alex target successive league wins with a play-off push still possible.

Despite being among the early pace-setters, County have tumbled down League One ultimately costing Keith Curle his job before Tuesday’s 2-0 defeat at Stevenage.

On loan until the end of the season, both Inman and Chuks Aneke are unlikely to be rested but Harry Davis (toe) and Mathias Pobga (international duty) are out.

Both Davis and Matt Tootle have been rewarded with new contracts that secure their futures until 2015.

"When you're young at Crewe you can get yourself obsessed with the thought of getting a big move.

“But once you're past that – and I got past that stage a long time ago to be honest – you realise how lucky you are to be playing here,” explained Tootle, 22.

“It's a great club.”
