STEVE Davis felt Crewe Alexandra were unlucky in Tuesday’s 2-1 home defeat to new league leaders Bournemouth.

Brett Pitman converted a harsh-looking penalty on the hour after Mathias Pogba was adjudged to have fouled Matt Ritchie.

Pogba (79) made amends when headed home Kelvin Mellor’s cross but Pitman (84) was in the right place to convert Steve Cook’s miss-hit cross for all the points.

“I can’t fault the amount of effort the players put in against a very good side,” added Davis.

“I’m just disappointed they didn’t get anything for their efforts because we have played well.

“They felt robbed in the dressing room because a couple of decisions have cost us.

“I don’t want to talk about the decisions because it was a really good game of football between two footballing teams.”

Crewe return to action on Wednesday night as they look to seal their Wembley date.

The Alex take a 3-0 lead into the home second-leg of the Johnstones Paint Trophy Northern Final against Coventry City.
