Pogba puts Alex on track

STEVE Davis insists Crewe can still push for the Championship after Tuesday night’s solid 2-1 win over MK Dons.

A Mathias Pogba double proved enough to secure three points that re-ignites belief that the Alex can defy the odds and secure a second successive play-off spot.

The Railwaymen are now 13th in League One and nine points adrift of the top six with two games in hand.

Davis believes his side have proved they have enough in the locker to maintain this club’s fantastic ride.

“I’ll never write this group of players off ever,” he explained.

“I know what they are capable of.

“They can beat anyone on their day as long as they reach a certain level and they did on Tuesday.

“We’ve got some great games coming up against some tough teams and they always seem to raise their performances for those occasions so watch this space.”

Patrick Bamford had given the visitors a 31st minute lead but top scorer Pogba (40, 84) netted his 15th and 16th goals of the season to turn tables.

New recruit Nathan Ellington made his full debut while Ryan Colclough got a chance with Max Clayton away on international duty.

And the 18-year-old forward impressed as he competed his first 90 minutes for the Alex.

“Ryan has been on standby for England under 19s so he is getting noticed,” continued Davis.

“I’ve used him as a sub before and I thought now was the right time to bring him in from the start.

“He showed those little turns and jinks he has and he’s capable of creating chances for himself.”
