STEVE Phillips has his sights firmly set on a second successive Wembley triumph.

Despite Alan Martin’s recall in Crewe’s 1-0 win over Preston, the 34-year-old is expected to return between the sticks against Southend in Sunday’s JPT final.

And he’s focused on capping off another big occasion with a victory as the club targets further success to maintain the Steve Davis revival.

“To get promotion last season at Wembley was brilliant, and it’s a great achievement to get to a final this season,” said Phillips.

“It’s what we set out to do at the start of the season, and to come past a very good Coventry City side over two legs to get there was really pleasing.

“Hopefully we can finish off the job, but we know it will be tough against a very strong Southend team.

“We edged them out in the play-off semi-finals last season, so there will be an extra interest there as well – and everyone’s looking forward to it.

“It will be the seventh time I’ve been at a club that has been to Wembley or the Millennium Stadium, and each occasion is just as special as the first.”

Now 10 points behind the play-off positions with a game in hand, Phillips insists that Crewe will not quit on making a rapid return to Wembley in search of Championship football.

The veteran stopper says they will fight on until it’s mathematically impossible.

“Every year, one team comes out of the pack to make the play-offs,” Phillips added.

“It was us last year in League Two, so why can’t it be us again in League One?

“It’s going to be a big ask and we know we can’t afford to lose too many in the run-in, but we will give it everything between now and the end of the season.”
