LUKE Murphy looks set to leave Crewe imminently with League One Wolves still favourites to get their man.

The 23-year-old midfielder is believed to have discussed terms at Molineux this week as the Alex hold out for a £1.5m deal with add-ons.

Both clubs were close to an agreement as the Guardian went to press.

However Premiership outfit Swansea were reportedly set to declare their interest along with Championship clubs Leeds and Blackburn.

“We’d like to keep Luke but I think the time has come for him to move on,” explained assistant manager Neil Baker.

“I think he’s pretty much decided he’d like a career move and he’s good enough.

“He’s served us well and if he does go, it will be with our blessing.

“Wolves are a big club and they’ll get back into the Championship sooner rather than later.

“But one bid usually triggers off more movement from other clubs and where he’ll go – I’ve got no idea.”

While Crewe prepare for the departure of their captain, hopes of singing Accrington winger Lee Molyneux have stalled.

The 24-year-old bagged eight goals in the final 13 games of last season to help League Two Stanley avoid relegation.

And despite the former Southampton player agreeing terms, his agent only wants a one-year deal.

“We think he’ll fit the bill,” added Baker.

“I think he wants to come and we’ve agreed terms but his agent wants a one-year contract which we won’t agree to.

“They’ve gone away to think about it and it will be concluded one way or another soon.”

Defender Thierry Audel, 26, has joined the Railwaymen on an initial two-year deal after impressing at Macclesfield Town last season.

The 6ft 2ins Frenchman can play either right-back or centre-half.

“He’ll put the other defenders under pressure,” continued Baker.

“He’s a terrific athlete who is quick, good in the air and likes a tackle.”

Crewe have also taken former Manchester United midfielder Luke Giverin on trial.

The 20-year-old spent part of last season on loan at Belgium club Royal Antwerp and could figure in Saturday’s behind-closed-doors friendly at Celtic.

“He’s having a look at us and we’re having a look at him,” said Baker.“We’ll see if he can fit into what we do here.”
