STEVE Davis says he is going nowhere.

The boss has the full backing of chairman John Bowler and the board to try and keep Crewe in League One.

With the club’s off-the-pitch problems now clearing, Davis knows it’s up to him to put things right.

“I’ve had talks with John and the board is fully behind what we are doing,” he said.

“In most clubs you’d have seen a change but I know I am here for the duration.

“John has always had a long-term plan; I just don’t think he expected it to be successful so quickly.

“He has always seen myself, Neil (Baker) and James (Collins) being here through thick and thin.

“Part of it is that we still have to develop young players, we can’t stop just because we are in this position.

“But we know we are in a fight and the staff and players have to be better.”

Crewe’s winless run stretched to eight games after Tuesday’s 2-1 defeat at Carlisle.

Two goals in first-half injury time left them with a mountain to climb and after missing a glut of chances, Harry Davis provided last-gasp consolation.

“Those silly mistakes cost us dearly again,” continued Davis.

“The first-half was fairly even and we could have been celebrating a wonder goal from Vadaine (Oliver).

“It was a fantastic overhead kick only for the referee to stop the game for a head injury to Duggy.

“Those things seem to go against you when you are down there.”

Crewe will look to bring in two new faces before tomorrow’s loan deadline with a proven striker the number one priority.

Anthony Grant and Brad Inman could also follow Lee Molyneux out of the door after being made available as Davis looks to sort out problems in the squad.

“Harry is now our top scorer and that says everything,” added Davis.

“We have the loan deadline coming up and we have to do something.

“We can only bring in two really because I have three on loan already but we need to bring in some quality.

“It’s not rocket science – we need a striker who has a good record.”

Crewe entertain mid-table Crawley this Saturday.
