Crewe Alex Ladies u18's 9 Wirral Hawks 4

CREWE Alexandra’s under 18s girls team had to fight their way back from two goals down, but finished strongly to run out convincing victors against the visiting Wirral Hawks.

A superb five-goal haul from Becky Garner propelled Alex’s ladies towards the win, ably assisted by goals from Mary Turley, Aimee Scragg, Annie Timmis and Sophie Brooks.

It was not all plain sailing however, as within 11 minutes of kick-off Crewe were staring down the barrel of a two-goal deficit.

But Crewe’s strength lies very much within their potent attack, and within a minute of going a goal down their strike force sprung into action to reduce arrears.

Mary Turley neatly curved her shot past the Wirral keeper to kick-start the revival, which was halted only briefly when Wirral added a third goal.

A shuffle at the back paid dividends and from that moment Crewe were relentless.

Scragg pulled another back on 38 minutes and Garner struck the first of her haul from long-range to draw her side level.

Wirral’s final goal temporarily put them back into the lead, but Garner’s second again dragged Crewe level and from then they kicked on, Timmis putting them into the lead for the first time.

Garner then completed her hat trick on 64 minutes before hammering two more in quick succession to leave Alex firmly in control, before Brooks’ fine free kick nestled in the top corner to cap off a resounding attacking performance.
