MARK Ellis insists Crewe will give it everything to stay in League One.

Back-to-back home defeats against relegation rivals have seen the Alex fall back into the drop zone with only six games left.

However the 25-year-old defender vows all is not lost.

“It’s been disappointing not picking up any points out of those games and we’re making it hard for ourselves,” he said.

“But we have to keep believing.

“A lot of us haven’t been in this situation before and we’ve got to battle until the end.

“There are still a lot of teams involved and all it might take is a couple of wins in the last few games.

“The main thing now is to get the points and if it means scrapping then so be it.”

Crewe look to start their escape bid with Saturday’s trip to Crawley.

After suffering four straight defeats, the hosts are also still yet to get over the safety line.

Top scorer Matt Tubbs missed their midweek loss at Port Vale and is still struggling with a hamstring injury.

“If we get three points at Crawley and other results go our way we’re back out of it,” added Ellis.

“I’ve played against Matt Tubbs a couple of times and he’s a good player.

“But we’ve just got to worry about ourselves.

“We’ve got to work hard now for these final six games. It would be nice to finish off with six clean sheets and that isn’t impossible.

“I think we have got to go out and get the first goal.

“Then we’re on the front foot and we can do our best to shut up shop.

“I think there has been a bit more pressure at home and it’s not gone for us.

“Some of the lads do feel better away and at times we’ve shown that.

“I’ve been in this situation before at Torquay and we pulled away at the end.

“Now I’m looking to do the same again.”

On-loan striker Uche Ikpeazu missed training with a stiff ankle but should make the trip with no new injury concerns for boss Steve Davis.

“Everyone is still upbeat,” explained Davis.

“We’re positive and looking to take that performance against Coventry into Saturday.”
