STEVE Davis believes Crewe Alexandra will repair the early-season damage after their revival continued at Yeovil on Tuesday night.

Fresh from a morale-boosting derby 2-1 win over Port Vale, the Alex claimed their first point on the road at Yeovil in a 1-1 draw.

Billy Waters was on target shortly after the hour-mark for Davis’ side, only for Keiffer Moore to strike 18 minutes from time.

Still rock-bottom of League One after their worst start to a season in 30 years, four points out of a possible six has given everyone at the club hope things can be turned around.

"It was always going to be a tough trip here after the derby and we didn't know how much that would take out of them," explained Davis.

"We tried to prepare the best that we could and it wasn't easy with the numbers we had. Everyone worked terrifically hard and I thought we were well worth the point.

"We had to hold on a bit at the end but we defended well on the whole. We're delighted to get back-to-back results however they come and we're working hard to try and claw our way out of where we are.

"If we carry on working as hard as we did on that pitch, improve the quality and also the squad a bit then we'll be ok.”

Davis is still looking to bring in new recruits ahead of Saturday's trip to MK Dons.

"We are closer to bringing two or three in," he added. "We know where we are short and we're trying to do something about it.”

Although looking to booster his strike force, Davis has been happy with the contribution of Vadaine Oliver.

“We’ve been asking him to work harder harrying defenders and he got his reward on Tuesday,” he said.

“He then had one thing on his mind, to shoot, and Billy was in the right place to tap it in. We know what he can do.

“We didn't make many chances so we relied on the forwards to do well and they did.”

Max Clayton's move to Championship outfit Bolton should be completed after a reported £300,0000 deal plus substantial add-ons was agreed.

Davis was philosophical about the 20-year-old's departure.

"He still has a lot of potential and needs to get his career going again," continued the boss.

"Max didn't have the impact he would have wanted in League One and we were disappointed he didn't sign his contract because the club did everything that they could to try and keep him.

"We had to receive decent compensation for all the hard work the likes of Dario Gradi and the coaches have done here – bringing him through the academy and into the professional game."
