BOSS Steve Davis insists he will not quit Crewe Alexandra despite mounting calls to go.

Tuesday night’s 3-0 drubbing at home to Notts County was their eighth defeat in 10 matches – leaving the club well adrift at the foot of League One.

After targeting at least four points out of a possible six, Davis has seen his side emerge from two key clashes with nothing and looking desperate.

While some supporters blame a lack of investment from the board following that mass exodus of players during the summer, others feel the buck still stops with Davis.

The manager adamant he remains the right man to turn it around.

“I can only say the same things as I did after the defeat against Colchester (3-0),” explained Davis. “We have been fine in the game and suddenly there is a goal from nothing.

"It was a bad time to concede right on half-time and then we go two down because people aren't doing their jobs properly.

“I don't know what goes through their heads because it is simple stuff. They don't have any answers.

"There was no life or fight in the second half and that is the disappointing thing. It is a very difficult time, I expect the criticism and I have to fight through it.

“I’ll keep going until someone says otherwise. I know it is about results and I am trying to get the best out of this group.

“I think it needs rebuilding and I am prepared to do that job. You have to keep going and trying to get through to them. I hoped for a reaction (against Notts County) and I didn't get one. Now I'll hope for one at Bradford.

"They need to do better. Without singling them out, how long do you go on with them? I’m working with them and thinking they will do something.

"You lose patience or else you lose your job. I'll have to juggle it about, get a few out and a few in, keep the books balanced and see what I can do.”

Davis believes the board will back him as they head to surprise package Bradford City on Saturday.

“They are all gutted because we want to be doing better than we are,” continued Davis.

“But they are supportive and I’ve had that right from the minute I walked through the door five years ago. I’m sure they will continue to be supportive to me.

“We have to keep strong, work hard and believe we can turn it around because there is still plenty of time to do that.”

Davis’ son Harry could be a key man and may even make the bench after recovering from a long-standing knee injury.
