Rochdale 4 Crewe Alexandra 0

CREWE Alexandra slipped to a heavy defeat to Rochdale at Spotland in League One on Tuesday night, writes Jamie Davies.

It was the Alex’s third loss in the last four matches in League One after they sealed three victories in February, creating a big gap from the relegation zone.

Rochdale’s club captain Joe Henderson broke the dead lock by scoring a penalty past Paul Rachubka with seven minutes remaining in the first half after Joe Rafferty was taken down by the Alex’s Bradden Inman.

Joe Bunney doubled the lead for the hosts on the 58th minute, guiding a low strike from the left hand side of the penalty area into the bottom right corner of the net.

With 17 minutes of normal time left, a second penalty of the night was awarded to the blues after a clumsy tackle from Jon Guthrie, who made his first start for the club after recovering from injury.

Henderson held his nerve to beat Rachubka on the penalty spot for the second time of the night.

Bunney put the game to bed by collecting a forward ball past the Crewe defence to slot into the bottom right corner of the net, making it a long trip home for the 222 travelling fans.
