STEVE Davis has vowed to bring in more new faces following Crewe’s double swoop.

Former Dagenham star Billy Bingham, 24, became the first arrival of the summer, quickly followed by Swansea’s Adam King, 19, joining on a six-month loan deal.

And the boss insists it won’t stop there as he looks to add one more midfielder to the mix alongside a keeper and a left-back.

“We have more on the radar and we’re still looking at the middle,” explained Davis.

“Billy had options in League One and even a Championship club who would have taken him so we’re delighted to have sealed that one.

“He has the craft and guile with that left foot to pick people out and he keeps the ball well.

“Adam is behind one or two at Swansea but he’s very highly rated by the manager there.

“It was a no brainer, this is the right club to come to for his first loan.

“He’s got a great amount of energy, I’ve watched him and he bosses the midfield and wants the ball all the time.

“We’re delighted with the two but I’d still bring in one more midfielder.

“That would give us five players battling out for three spots.

“We’re after quality and if that means waiting, then we will but we need to increase the competition so players never think they are automatic picks.

“I will try to get the best in we can and I would like to strengthen in other departments as well.

“We certainly need a left back and a keeper to challenge Ben.

“Once we have done that then we’ll reassess the budget and see if we need to fill in other areas.”

Both John Lundstram and David Fox remain in contention to be that third midfielder.

“David is still training with us and it’s clear he’s a great professional with a great attitude,” continued Davis.

“He works hard every day and would fit into what we want to do in the midfield.

“Our engine room was second best on too many occasions last season.

“We have a few other options but David is still one we’re considering so we’ll decide what is best for us and see what develops.

‘We are in dialogue with him and his agent.”

Experienced coach Fred Barber has returned to the club to work with Ben Garratt, meaning Davis will now recruit a young keeper.

“Fred is a great coach and he works the keepers hard,” added Davis.

“He wants to make Ben into a player that goes on to bigger and better things and there is no reason why that shouldn’t happen.

“He’s a bubbly character who fits in here well.”
