MARCUS Haber says revitalised Crewe Alexandra are equipped to defy relegation once again.

Boosted by back-to-back wins, the Alex look to extend their run at Doncaster Rovers this Saturday.

The 26-year-old believes the addition of Ryan Lowe, 37, has been pivotal in their change of fortunes along with defender Semi Ajayi.

And with David Fox, 31, also ready to return to action after six weeks out with a back injury, more experience could be key.

“The two results helped the morale of the team, and we’ll be trying to do the same on Saturday,” explained the Canadian international.

“We’ve added strength to the squad and I think the two loan signings have definitely helped us.

“It’s not even so much the quality of the player, it’s the experience.

“You know the clever tricks and way to play the game properly and sometimes at Crewe it is something we’ve lacked.

“We have been criticised as being naïve at times and, although we play great football, that doesn’t always equate to good results.

“Having that balance is important and will help us. The sooner we can get back Foxy, who is a big player for us as well, can only mean better things.”

Often deployed as a lone forward, Haber believes Lowe’s arrival and a change in system has benefited him.

“Every forward understands the challenges of playing by yourself,” he added.

“It is a job you have to do sometimes.

“But it’s difficult. You are having to play backwards all the time and chase your own flick-ons.

“Playing two up front is something I look forward to. Having an experienced forward to play with is an extra benefit.

“We have played off each other and been able to link, and that’s something I feel we’ve been missing this season.

“I think we have a good understanding and he makes my life a lot easier.

“His work rate is phenomenal.”

Fox should be in contention despite picking up a slight ankle knock while playing for the under 21s on Monday.

Brad Inman should also be part of the weekend's plans as Crewe target an upset in south Yorkshire.

But boss Steve Davis says he would not be surprised to see interest develop in Ben Garratt or top scorer Ryan Colclough over the next few weeks.

The 21-year-old keeper has made more saves than any other in all four divisions of English football and could be a target before the January transfer window closes.

“If the timing is right we’d allow them to go on to bigger and better things,” said Davis.

“A few could make that step up to the Championship, but we don’t have enough.

‘If we had eight or nine, we’d be looking at a team that could get a promotion run going.”
