STEVE Davis is set for crunch talks with Crewe Alexandra chairman John Bowler over his January targets.

The Alex boss hopes to keep all four loan players in his squad and sign a left-back when the transfer window re-opens next month.

Ryan Lowe, Danijel Nizic, Semi Ajayi and Adam King are available for all four festive fixtures before their loan spell expires on January 5.

Davis hopes to have the option of extending them for another month or until the end of the season as he targets another great escape.

“We’ve already started thinking about what to do when the window reopens,” he said.

“I’ve got a meeting this week with the chairman about what we can do in January, who we can look to keep and any possible holes we need to fill.

“It’s not far away now and these four games are going to come and go quickly before we’re into the new year.

“Obviously we’re in the hands of the other clubs so conversations will have to take place with them as to whether they can stay or if they want them back.

“If Dave Richards is fit then that will affect keeping Danijel.

“We’ve got a decision to make on Kingy, he’s the second highest goalscorer in our team so that decision would be quite easy depending on Swansea.

“Lowey will be dependent on his club, we’re not sure yet, and then we’ve got to start thinking about the left-back spot.

“I can only bring in five loan players because that’s the limit, so we don’t want to bring in anyone that’s sitting in the stands."

Former Leicester City full-back Zoumana Bakayogo remains an option with this week’s meeting likely to be decisive.

Davis will also have a big call to make on the future of Ajayi with his options limited at centre-half.

George Ray is out until March with a broken ankle and although Harry Davis (knee) is edging closer to fitness, he could still be weeks away.

“We’ll have to assess how close he is,” continued Davis.

“We can extend Semi’s loan that bit longer but what we’ve got to be careful about is that if we do and he goes back, he can’t go out anywhere else if the January window has closed.”

Crewe look to bounce back from a devastating defeat at Doncaster at the weekend, where they conceded twice in added time to lose 3-2, with three points at home to struggling Fleetwood on Saturday.

“They are very rigid and disciplined in their performances and work hard,” explained the Alex boss.

“I know what they have got and how they’ll play.

“It’ll be a tough game, but we know it’s an important one and we’ll try to win it.”
